Much of this week’s work and readings focus on setting the stage for Enterprise Architecture. Typically, school districts have maintained separate plans for technology and the district. For example, a district creates a “district education plan” and then has a separate “technology plan.” Moving forward, do you think this is still a good practice, or should they be combined? Please provide a rationale for your decision.
I believe that there needs to be a clear plan that answers the questions and issues that arise during a year. If there are separate plans for each thing, then it implies that certain parts do not operate together. However, in the reading from this week, the word, "interoperability" was stressed as very important in the success of a business. If a school district creates an educational plan and then another for technology, it would be sending the message that they do not go hand-in-hand. In our 21st century learning, we need to start reviewing education and technology as linked together. Clearly there are some identities that make each part unique, but as education is becoming blended and smarter balanced tests require online knowledge, we must make sure that plans are reflecting this type of change. Additionally, if the two , educational and technology plans, were written together, it could eliminate a lot of the same language used twice. Staff would not have to check the educational plan and then the technology plan to see if they can go ahead with certain plans; it would all be at one place, encouraging all staff to work together.
