-Who was surveyed? What did the results say?
The whole school was surveyed. I am focusing on the 122 students in the 10th grade that answered the Student Voice Survey.
-What other data will you gather?
I met with the 10th grade team of teachers and we all going to interview our 3rd period classes to get more information on what does value mean to them. We are then going to share the findings.
-How will you tie your work to student achievement?
Student who do not feel valued will also probably be on the incomplete list for the 10th grade. An incomplete means that the student has not reached competency of a topic. Some students in 10th grade will have all incompletes. I am going to cross reference their grades in other classes as well.
-Will you also use discipline and attendance information?
Our 10th grade class has great attendance. I know that Chas, who works with the 11th grade faces more of an attendance issue than we do.
-Have you looked at the "hibernating" students' academic performance?
The hibernating students are the ones that do not want to be noticed. There is one student that I have in mind who I have been trying to build a relationship with. He has some "active" days and other days when his head is down for most of the period. He also has support staff work with him and completes modified assignments.
-Will you talk with them to dig deeper?
I have surveyed my students and continue to talk to them everyday to make sure that they feel valued in class. I am hoping this transfers to grit and not being on the incomplete list.
